I was brought up in Berkshire and graduated with a<\/span> <\/span>degree in medicine<\/span> from Cardiff University. After completing my medical degree, I worked as a junior doctor in medicine and surgery and later moved to South London where I started my psychiatry training at the world-renowned<\/span> Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudsley Hospital.<\/span> Aside from the regular night shifts in the Accident & Emergency department of<\/span> King\u2019s College Hospital<\/span>, providing emergency psychiatric care, I worked during the day with adults with complex mental health problems, older adults suffering with a combination of mental illness and dementia, treated patients with severe drug and alcohol problems and worked on adolescent and national eating disorder wards. I worked on wards, in community clinics, visited care homes and did many home visits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Towards the end of my training at the Maudsley, I focused on treating adults with complex mental illnesses and sub-specialised in addiction sciences whilst working on specialist detoxifications units. I completed a\u00a0<\/span>MSc degree in Addiction Sciences<\/span> bases in the<\/span> National Addictions Centre at the Institute of Psychiatry in London<\/span>, linked to the Maudsley, and later lectured to MSc undergraduates and medical students from University College London, Kings College London and junior psychiatrists both at the Maudsley and on the<\/span> North London Psychiatry training<\/span> scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n

I trained and worked in a national unit The Centre for Anxiety Disorders & Trauma (CADAT) treating severe anxiety disorders at the Maudsley both in a community specialist anxiety disorders team and on inpatient ward treating patients with severe OCD and other anxiety disorder. The Centre for Anxiety Disorders & Trauma (CADAT) is a leader in research, training and the clinical treatment of anxiety in the UK. CADAT is also a psychological therapy outpatient service offering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and is based within the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).<\/span><\/p>\n

I worked in North London in the field of dual diagnosis and addictions \u2013 treating patients with complex needs, severe mental health problems, chronic pain coupled to dependency on painkillers and severe drug and alcohol dependencies. As a<\/span> borough Clinical Lead<\/span>, I worked in the prison setting and in community clinics improving clinical areas in terms of safety, quality of treatment and designing new treatment protocols. More recently, I worked with Child Safeguarding boards to design a process to assess and support young people that present injecting steroids, tanning enhancing agents, Mephedrone and stimulants.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hold full registration with the General Medical Council, am on the specialist register with the<\/span> General Medical Council as a specialist in treating Addiction Disorders<\/span>. I am member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and have completed a<\/span> Master\u2019s degree in Addiction Science<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n
